Welcome to OSINT Exercise #030!
Task briefing:
The refugee crisis in Central Africa has been ongoing for decades. With millions of people fleeing violence, humanitarian agencies play a critical role by providing assistance, including emergency shelters.
The video below, published in October 2007, shows the situation in a refugee camp in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The structures seen in the footage are long gone, as the conflict in the region waxes and wanes. Geolocating temporary accommodations is often challenging, as satellite images are scarce and the situation on the ground volatile. It is, however, still possible.
Your task is to:
a) Find the exact location of the white tent seen in the video below at the 1:16 minute mark.
Note: Please be aware that this exercise may expose you to distressing content, as refugee camps often harbour people in vulnerable and difficult conditions.
Exercise level:
For beginners: a) Hard.
For experts: a) Hard.

Why is my walkthrough not showing up above?
If you sent me your walkthrough and you do not see it on the list, here are the possible reasons:
• One or more of your answers were incorrect or missing.
• You asked me not to include it on the list, and I’m respecting your wishes.
• You may have sent me an incorrect or incomplete link.
• You linked to a website that tracks who sees your articles (e.g, LinkedIn).
• I suspected AI was heavily involved in the production of your walkthrough.
• I suspected you just wrote a walkthrough based on my video, and not your own work.
• I haven’t had the time to actually read, and add it yet (give me at least a week).
• I forgot about it (doesn’t usually happen, but I’m not flawless).
Why do some walkthroughs have a ⭐ in front of them?
The golden star emojis were introduced on the second year anniversary of OSINT Exercises. I will be adding them to walkthroughts that I feel stand out and deserve extra recognition. You can read more about my reasoning behind the decision in my blog post: “Two Years of OSINT Exercises: The Importance of Community Learning.”
